Spring Awakening

Paralleling coming out and the vibrant renewal of spring.

Spring Awakening: a low, fluted stoneware vessel glazed in chartreuse and lavender with dark pooling and small pierced holes.

About the series

Spring bursts forth with youthful vigour, its greens cresting with chartreuse amidst washes of ochre and sepia.

This exploration delves into queerness and the essence of living authentically, much like the new growth that springs forth. It’s about moving and navigating the world through fresh eyes, mirroring the rapid growth and transformation that occur within a tiny seed pod or branch, poised to reach its full potential.

These pieces explore the use of bisque discards, scrap wire, and grog to evoke the sensation of new life on the forest floor. By layering various glazes, underglazes with oxide washes, and employing mark-making techniques, the work aims to capture the energy both above and below ground.
